5 things to do if you find yourself with wedding dress regrets.

It was once your dream wedding dress, it made you feel like a princess, fitted like a glove and you even had your mum and bridesmaids in tears. But now that you’ve rescheduled your wedding to next year due to Covid 19, what happens if you fall out of love with your wedding dress!

It’s natural for brides at one point or another, to have a momentary wobble about their wedding dress. But now with added time for thought some may feel something isn’t completely right about your chosen bridal gown -should I have gotten the other one? Should I have tried on more dresses? Did I get the right size? Was I pressured into buying it from the boutique and bought on impulse?

Whatever the reason, don’t panic! As I have put together a few solutions on what to do when you start feeling that dreaded wedding dress regrets…

1. Try your wedding dress on again

Remember the reasons you chose it. There was obviously something about it that made you feel it was the one. Remember the way you felt when you said yes! Most brides will feel these emotions again and it’s natural to forget what your dress looks and feels like when you haven’t seen it for a while. You may just need a quick refresher to remind you of why you bought in the first place.

2. Get in touch with the bridal boutique

Speaking with your bridal boutique may help. Give them a call for a list of all your options. Explain your situation (nicely and calmly, of course—remember, you've signed a contract, so this goes beyond simply changing your mind) and the bridal boutique MAY be willing to work with you and come to an understanding. As your dress has been made and you’ve collected it’s unlikely that you will be able to change it, however often we can work with or designers and maybe make some alterations or additional fabrics can be ordered to change the look.

3. Work with what you have.

Don’t ditch the dress just yet, as one look can be completely transformed with a statement accessory or fashion garment. Your seamstress who specialises in wedding dress alterations can work wonders! Take your dress to them and walk them through what you don't like. It's possible your dress just doesn't fit you properly, which makes more of a difference than you'd think. Otherwise, the seamstress can make suggestions and tweaks (remove a little lace here, bring the sleeves up there or soften a silhouette) to transform the original garment. If your wedding dress is too plain or you don’t feel it accentuates your figure, why not add a bridal belt to cinch in your waist and add some sparkle. But don't forget to ask about pricing—more substantial alterations can sometimes cost as much or more than getting a new dress altogether, so do your homework to see what's worth it and right for your budget.

4. Accessorize!

Never underestimate the power of accessories. Embellish your look with a flattering belt, gorgeous jewellery, or a pretty lace topper—especially if you regret playing it safe by purchasing a simple dress. And don't forget your veil (when else will you get to wear one?). Your dress might not be your dream dress, so make up for it with a dream headpiece or some incredible new shoes!

5. Sell it and buy a second dress.

I know what you're thinking: Buy an additional dress? Yeah, right. Just hear me out. You don't have to shell out a ton of money for this second party frock. If the boutique you bought your gown in won’t offer a refund or exchange, or you’ve decided you no longer love your dress, head online to re-sell. Advertise the designer, price, size and attach photographs and it could be snapped up in no time!  You may not get all of your money back; however, what you do get can go towards the dress of your dreams.

If you have been struggling with wedding dress regrets and want to know more about how to not fall out of love with your wedding dress, get in touch for some professional guidance and fall in love with your dream wedding dress all over again. Remember you are still marrying the love of your life and that’s always perfect.
