Bridal Gossip FAQs

Shopping for your wedding dress is an experience like no other – full of emotion, smiles and laughter.  I’m always asked lots of questions about what to expect from Bridal Gossip, so here is a list of everything I think you need to know.

What will I expect at Bridal Gossip from my appointment?

We offer a range of appointments to suit every bride. Our first look appointment is for brides just starting out that just want to pop in and look at the dresses and get a feel for them. Our VIP Dress experience is for brides really wanting to enjoy quality time with Caroline and absorb her knowledge and experience. This appointment will guide you through the styles and colours that compliment you and your shape and includes some fizz to keep you hydrated! For brides that want to remember the moment we offer an opportunity with our in-house photographer to capture those cherished memories. Emergency appointment, Second and third try ons and dress collections.

How long are Bridal Gossip appointments?

Every appointment time differs and range from 45 minutes to 2 hours. I provide a variety of appointment styles including a first-look and VIP event, so please ask me about these.

Can I take photographs?

Unfortunately, due to copyrights our designers are not fond of their dresses being snapped, therefore, there is an iPad in store which photos can be taken of your favourites but ask that you keep in mind the dresses you are trying on may not be the correct size, or colour and will not fit you like the brand new gown you would be purchasing.

Therefore try to remember the feeling you have in a gown and not rely on images.

Who should I bring with me?

As lovely as it is to involve as many people as possible when going dress shopping, I would advise you to limit your guests to 4 people (including yourself) to allow yourself to be focused and able to think clearly. Bring people who know you well and whose opinions you trust. Too many opinions can often be quite confusing to a bride to be, and after all it’s all about you!

What sizes are your samples?

Dress sample sizes come in sizes 10 – 30. Designs are limited to certain sizes, however we will still be able to give you an idea of how they will look if they are not your size. All of the dresses can be made to measure from size 6-32 and once ordered take 12-16 weeks to be in store. There can often be loan dresses from some of my designers that could only be in the boutique for a short period of time, so please be aware that dresses will be available frequently. Loan dresses will be either in a size 10 or 16, but all of these loan dresses are available for purchase in sizes 6-32.

What should I bring with me?

Just yourself and your excitement! All of the dresses will be provided, along with a selection of, veils, hair accessories, and jewellery that can be used during your appointment. I will help fit the gowns in a private changing room. If you have a special pair of shoes, please feel free to bring these along, there will be a raised podium for you to stand on to get an idea of the height required.

How much will I need to spend?

Dresses vary in price depending on the designer you choose. Our new to order gowns are priced from around £950 up to £2,400. Bespoke alterations are an additional cost and depend on the changes you make. We have the option to purchase dresses from the rails '“off the peg” which can be taken away on the day. These start from £600. Our sale rail, which changes regularly, starts from £350.

Alterations are a separate cost and you will be given details of our seamstress when you place your order.

Some questions you may not have thought about…

FAKE TAN: Please note, absolutely no fake tan. Our dresses need to be kept in pristine condition for future brides to try on.

POLITE NOTICE: As a retail business, we pride ourselves with good hygiene. Please bear in mind brides do purchase dresses from the rails (sample gowns) so our dresses need to be kept to the best standard so other brides also enjoy their fitting experience.

UNDERWEAR: It’s really useful to wear similar underwear that you will be wearing on the day, so you can feel comfortable in the dresses you try on and I recommend wearing white or nude shades. The right underwear for your dress is crucial to the way that certain styles of dresses look. Our seamstress can add an additional internal bra strap around your back if you’re wearing a strapless gown and you want an extra feeling of security.

CHILDREN: As much as we appreciate many brides are mums and getting childcare is not always easy, the boutique is not a suitable environment for children under 12. For you to really enjoy the experience with our worrying about breakages or damage to the dresses or boutique we suggest coming on your own. Any breakages or damage will need to be paid for. Please do not bring drinks or snacks to the boutique. We do not have any changing facilities in the boutique and your appointment will not be able to be extended should we need to break to attend to small children.
