For those of you that are not so attached what can you do with your wedding dress after the big day? Read on for some inspiration!

1. Box it up

There are some great cleaning services that will dry clean your wedding dress and box it up for you for storage. You may want to keep it for yourself or to pass it onto the next generation. Getting your wedding dress properly cleaned and stored is the best way to ensure it is free from chemicals, bugs, light damage, and anything else that may affect it. Once boxed, it will also be ready to pop away in a cupboard until the next time it is needed.

2. Sell it

For many brides getting some money back on your expensive wedding dress in Cornwall is the main priority. For resale, many boutiques in Cornwall don't take pre-loved wedding dresses in Cornwall so you’ll need to find a boutique in Cornwall that does. Often it's not an option to sell it back to the shop you bought it from, but it's worth asking as they may have an off the peg rail that it could go on. Putting it onto social media or selling sites such as eBay can also work really well and you will often get more for it.

3. Hand it down

Whether you’re already parents or plan to be in the future, saving your wedding dress for your offspring can be a really lovely thing to do. Commissioning a custom christening gown has become an incredibly popular way to re-use a dress after the wedding. Plus whoever is sewing will have plenty of extra fabric to work with! You could even keep the old leftover fabric for any potential future children, as well, or for a matching outfit for your elder little one. Even if your daughters don’t plan on re-wearing it, certain pieces can be incorporated into memorabilia.

4. Trash it!

As unconventional as it may sound, ‘Trash the Dress’ photoshoots are super popular now and the trend is ever-growing. You may think it’s absurd to waste all that money spent on your dress by ruining it, but don’t rule it out just yet. You and your partner could have copious amounts of fun dressing up in your wedding gear again and have even more fun trashing it! There are loads of crazy things you can do – paintballing, mud fights, and even taking a splash in the sea! Ruining your wedding dress isn’t an idea that would sit well with every bride, but after all the pressure of planning a wedding in Cornwall, why not release some stress and go for it? Invite your wedding photographer back to capture the whole thing on camera and make some great memories together.

5. Frame it

It’s not all about keeping it hidden away in your wardrobe. You can keep the whole dress intact – with no risks of moths feasting on it at all – by framing it. Why not give it pride of place in your living room! This option can be quite pricy but you can either just use the corset or arrange sections of it beautiful with your bouquet or other keepsakes from the day.

6. Transform it

Wedding dresses made of satin, lace, or tulle can be transformed into beautiful evening bags, and accessories; Imagine carrying your wedding dress in clutch form to your first-anniversary dinner or any other anniversary date for years to come. If staying in is more your speed, dresses can also be made into pillows or quilts, that way you can be reminded of your wedding day memories every day in your own home. A talented seamstress can take your beautiful dress, and all of the emotion and nostalgia that comes with it, and turn it into a keepsake which is a bit more practical than storing the entire dress.

7. Have a party!

If you have a lot of friends who got married around the same time, maybe hold a girls-only night and wear all of your wedding gowns again, while you still get the chance. As soon as some of you get pregnant you may change shape to fit back into them, as well as no longer be able to enjoy a cocktail with the girls, so why not make use of this while you can? Every girl dreams of that iconic friend’s photo with their friends in their wedding dresses so why not have a photographer come and grab some great memories of generations of styles.
