Why I decided to trash my own wedding dress as a wedding planner in Cornwall.

I know what you are thinking ladies why would a bridal boutique owner EVER encourage you to trash your wedding dress! The few people I’ve told always gasp in shock when they hear what I did. You spend a long time choosing that perfect wedding gown for you wedding day which means you’re going to do everything necessary in order to preserve it’s perfection. For me I was never going to have my wedding dress framed or keep it in a box for my daughters christening. I had other ideas for my wedding gown when I took the brave step to TRASH IT! Like my wedding day I wanted to create memories, so I set off with my new husband and our family to a secluded beach in North Devon armed with fluorescent paint and powder!

I didn’t have to twist the arm too much of my wedding photographer Amy Sampson when I approached her with the idea. Like many photographers the thought of doing something crazy like this doesn’t happen very often and what better way to capture more family moments than this!

I wanted some unique images of an unexpected setting that captures us as we intentionally trash my wedding dress by covering it in paint. It was the BEST day and we had so much fun. The memories we made and images captured were perfect and I now have some pretty cool imagery on my living room wall to talk about!

We got married at a beautiful country location but we absolutely adore the coast. As we got married in January a beach wedding was not really an option for us so I choose our shoot to take place on the beach so would also had some beautiful images of us walking along the shore pre wedding dress trashing! Our family really enjoyed getting involved even if no one wanted to be the first one to squirt just incase I changed my mind! They all wore white so they could also get involved. We took the limelight and just had fun on the beach.

If you are considering doing something a little different with your wedding dress my advice would be do it! We have so many fun stories to tell from this adventure, like pretending we were top models on a location shoot when people stopped to watch, figuring out how to get back in the car in a dress full of paint! Most of all we got to fall in love all over again and I would do that time and time again. They say you only wear your wedding dress once!
