Wedding Dress Tips: Put your phone down at your appointment
Read our 6 tips on why to ditch the smart phone whilst at your Bridal Boutique appointment in Cornwall.
This is so exciting! Congratulations ladies! You’re about to embark on the hugely exciting journey to find that dream dress, so before you hit the bridal boutiques in Cornwall, read my top 6 reasons to pop that phone down and be present and focused during your wedding dress appointment in Cornwall.
1. No photo policy
It may surprise you if you’re just embarking out on your wedding dress journey, however many bridal boutiques operate a no photo policy throughout the appointment. They may also not let you take photos in your dress until you’ve officially said ‘yes to the dress’ and bought it.
2. Enjoy the peace and attention!
Like many other bridal boutiques in Cornwall, we offer each of our brides the exclusive use of the shop with private 2 hour appointments for each client of our own uninterrupted undivided attention. As we all are aware, phones can be a huge distraction and time can fly by whilst scrolling social media or sending a few text messages. Bridal dress shopping in Cornwall can be a stressful and pressured process so you should be focused on finding that dream dress, without smart phones and social media getting in the way. Enjoy the peace of keeping that phone on do not disturb and enjoy the attention that bridal professionals are giving you - you deserve it!
3. Be respectful.
Be sure to ask about each bridal boutiques photography policy before or during your appointment and be respectful if they ask you not to take pictures. With some of your bridal boutique appointments, you may be told “the designers don’t let us take photos of you in the dresses” and this can be very true with legalities on patterns and styles in order to stop the dress being copied. Therefore try to remember the feeling you have in a gown and not rely on images. Often you’ll find that many bridal stores will upload plenty of their own or the designers stock images of their dresses online, either on their websites or social media so have a scroll when you get home to refresh your memory of how the gown looks on. You may also request to have these images sent through to you post appointment so you can save them to your Pinterest boards.
4. Remember the feeling!
As we talked about earlier, remember how you feel in the dress. Even if you fall in love on the day, you don’t need to commit to anything. Go away for a week, remember how you felt in the dress and then rebook and come and try the dress on again if you can’t stop thinking about it. If you are permitted to take photos during your bridal appointment, scrolling back through them at home won’t trigger the thrill or the emotion or feeling you felt in that specific gown, and you may begin to critique yourself on things out of your control. So simply remember the emotions you experienced in each bridal dress. You can always bring a few trusty bridesmaids and family members with you to make notes on how you look and feel in each dress and score you accordingly in a ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ style.
5. Bad angles and lighting
I’m a self-confessed critic of myself in photos and sometimes looking back through them, I can be very harsh on myself in every single shot. Again, if you are permitted to take photos, you will forget that the sample dress didn’t fit/had to be clamped or held by the bridal consultant, you’ll forget that the lighting is bad, you had the wrong shoes on, no make up, someone shot you from a rubbish angle under the chin – the list continues…
Again, we go back to - remember the feeling not the photo!
6. It’s a new experience
Wedding dress appointments in Cornwall can be a totally new and daunting experience for each bride and being asked to get naked and be ‘judged’ in a wedding dress by a group of friends and bridal professionals is difficult enough and a lot all in one day. Throwing a smart phone and camera into the mix and even the most confident woman can become shy and you run the option of undermining your confidence in yourself or the dress.
So there it is! The truth on why I recommend to put your phone down at your Bridal Boutique Appointment in Cornwall! Don’t let some bad pictures of you in a wedding dress appointment in Cornwall play on your mind, remember how you felt; trust yourself and your gut instinct. Keep in mind the dresses you are trying on may not be the correct size, or colour and will not fit you like the brand new gown you would be purchasing. Therefore try to remember the feeling you have in a gown and not rely on images. Be kind and be gentle with yourself!
